Year 5 have been looking at a short clip called 'The Piano'. This is a film about an old man reflecting on his life time memories. We used drama activities to explore the character's thoughts and feelings. From this the chidren then wrote the film up as a story. Check out the film and then read Subha's story.
Sam sat at his piano. Alone. Gradually and without thinking his fingers started playing Alice’s favourite tune. Missing his beloved wife, the sound of the piano drifted around the room. Reassuringly, a faint image formed beside him and tenderly placed a warm kiss on his cheek. Nothing felt the same without her.
Sam continued playing the piano, one note after the other. He could feel a burning in his heart. Loud crashes and bangs filled Sam’s ears as he knelt down, dressed in army uniform with a medic sign on his helmet.
‘Arrgh!’ he could hear as his closest friend crashed to the floor. Emotionally, Sam knelt down with blood dripping from his arm. Feeling terrible as he couldn’t save his friend, Sam hopelessly looked up to the dark, sparkling sky.
A strange feeling went down his spine, as his memories turned towards his childhood. Receiving a huge, sparkly, purple present wrapped in a gold ribbon, Sam wondered what it was. As quick as a flash, he unwrapped it and found a wooden hobby horse. He fell in love with it as soon as he saw it and rode it every day.
As Sam’s childhood memories came to an end, he noticed that the hobby horse moved onto his grandson, who came riding it towards him. Ben sat down beside him and they played the last not together. They looked at each other and gave each other a warm smile.
